Recycling construction and demolition waste is a profitable and environmental way to produce aggregates and reuse valuable materials that would otherwise be disposed. Processing the waste near the worksites also reduces the need for truck transportation, resulting in lower logistics costs.

Muck Away & Construction Waste Recycling Godalming, Haselmere, Farnham, Surrey & the South East
GroundCo provides muck away, mass dig and construction waste recycling services across Godalming, Surrey, South London, Berkshire and Hampshire. With 35 years’ experience in the construction industry, we work with private clients, building contractors, demolition contractors, farms, independent school trusts, swimming pool contractors, the National Trust, and local councils.
Our Muck Away Service
We provide grab trucks and builders’ skips for soil, construction waste, green waste and metal recycling — sized to suit the job:
15-tonne grab trucks for larger sites and bulk muck away

Mini grabs for tight-access sites and smaller building projects

From initial excavation rubble through to ongoing site clearance, we support your project from start to finish. Every load is registered and monitored in line with Environment Agency standards, and deposited at our certified, controlled facilities.
Where Your Spoil Goes
Spoil collected from your site is taken to a licensed recycling depot, where it’s sorted, crushed and re-used back into the construction industry — reducing landfill and cutting the cost of raw materials on future projects. Recycling isn’t an add-on for us; it’s core to how we operate.
How We Handle Waste Compliance
Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and the Waste Regulations 2011, responsibility for construction waste doesn’t end when it leaves your site — it stays with you until it’s disposed of legally. GroundCo builds every muck away and recycling job around this duty of care as standard:
- Licensed carriers only. We work exclusively with registered, checked waste carriers, so the legal risk of unlicensed disposal never falls on you.
- Correct waste classification on-site. Inert material (soil, concrete, brick), non-hazardous waste (timber, plastic, metal) and hazardous material (asbestos, solvents, contaminated ground) are identified and handled separately from the outset.
- The waste hierarchy, in practice. Prevent, reuse, recycle, then dispose — in that order. Material that can be crushed for aggregate or diverted from landfill, we recycle.
- Full documentation. Every load leaves with a proper waste transfer note, retained for a minimum of two years (longer for hazardous waste), giving you a complete paper trail.
- Hazardous waste handled by specialists. Asbestos and other hazardous materials are contained, labelled and taken only to approved facilities, with documentation to match.
- Recyclables kept separate, never compacted in with general waste — glass, metal, plastic, paper and cardboard are sorted in line with current guidance.

FAQs
Do I need a licensed carrier for muck away and construction waste? Yes. UK law requires an Upper Tier Waste Carrier Licence to transport construction or demolition waste, even for sole traders moving their own material. GroundCo only uses licensed, checked carriers.
Am I still liable if my waste is dumped illegally by someone else? Potentially, yes. Under your duty of care, you remain responsible until your waste reaches an authorised carrier. We verify every carrier’s credentials to protect you from this risk.
What happens to hazardous materials like asbestos? It’s identified early, contained and labelled correctly, and taken only to approved facilities by licensed specialists — never mixed in with general site waste.
Do I get proof my waste was disposed of correctly? Yes. Every load comes with a waste transfer note showing what was collected, where it came from, and where it went, retained for at least two years.
Do these rules apply to small jobs too? Yes — regulations apply regardless of project size, from a single skip to a full mass dig.
